When it became clear he couldn't rise alone, Ed came home from work and helped Derrick to stick two tractor tires (and assorted smaller tires) behind him for him to shove against.
Every time he tried to get up, they shoved the tires further into/under his behind.
This way he was able to STAY up on his chest (instead of falling on his side, exhausting for a horse, they can't breathe well that way. so he was flat, then up, then fell flat over and over *all day long*) and he got some **REAL REST**.
He was soooo relieved.
By 6:00 am this morning he was up again.
I think I'll leave the tires - not enough room with them there for him to try and lay down again.
Otherwise he is healing nicely.
