1974 cover from Dzyan - spacey krautrock with some sitar, electronics and even a steel drum thrown in for good measure. Despite all these promising signs the music remains a bit earthbound and not quite so mind-blowing as the cover. The painting style reminds me of Robert Williams and maybe Peter Saul as well. The artist is Helmut Wenske, from Germany. He illustrated many spacey 70's lp covers and sci-fi book covers as well. A google search uncovers some pretty fantastic surrealist sci-fi that I've never seen before - it's surprising that I've never heard of his work until now. Nice job, Helmut - wherever you are! |
