A plea for sensitivity towards oithers rather than violence
written at a time of crisis in Irish Politics re: stopping the violence of Catholic vs Protestant in Northern Ireland/the IRA . . . anybody really . . . .
There was a crucial vote pending at this time and U2 was asked to do a concert with Ash, a big Northern Ireland band, with the new moderate Catholic and Protestant politicians on stage -
Bono asked them (the politicians) to hold hands and pray - they did.
The concert helped to sway the votes enough that the initiative passed . . .
. . . unfortunately a few days later on last remenant of the worst or the IRA bombed town called Omagh (N. Ireland) on Market Day, kiling 23 and wounding over 200 innocent shoppers . . .
But a song did make a difference . . .
Can we make a difference, even in a little way, today?
Please?
PS Bono/U2 are not Catholic or Protestant "per se" since they ebcame adults, but all four (now) are very spiritual . . . |
