"Graduating class" of "the Pink Tub" circa 1963 - one of three college boarding houses my mom and dad ran in San Jose.
It was a really cool 3-story Victorian with a HUGE basement, Keith loved down there and the dining room was there and a huge storage/canning area in the back . . . also ahd a huge separate garage - mighta been a carriage house at one time.
The guy next door looked like a short version of JACK LaLANNE (the exercise guru) - grew the GREATEST veggies, would give me a raw cucumber which I would wash and eat, salting every bite!
We lived in it before moving to Santa Cruz.
Yes, there WAS a pink tub in the front yard, with red geraniums in it. It was on 6th Street a block from what was then San Jose State College (now University). Prolly a parking lot for SJSU now!
While we lived here my mom finished her BA in sociology (not a popular "science" at the time!); she got her MA? MS? in the same subject (for a social worker/counselor's license) when I was in high school . . .
Dad had gotten his BA in journalism there in the 50's and became a newspaper reporter.
In those daze, young folks, ALL guys wore WHITE shirts (NO COLORS!) and skeeeeny ties.
The sheets were all white too, and the towels . . . "White Sales" were really "White".
We used the linen remainders (as well as tableclothes, folding redwood dining tables and cooking utensils) for yeeee-eears.
Dad also owned a hotel in EUREKA, the town we ALL loved and lived in for a whole 6 months . . . before we moved here. Those were rocky daze . . .
Jan (7) and Keith (12) spent all their time down at the wharves; Keith went abalone fishing a LOT, we had shells for ever and ever, wish I had one now . . . Mom went to Humboldt State, Dad commuted back and forth to the Bay Area in his red MG, and our family slowly went to he-- . . .
