We were taken by relatives to this stone barn in Mn. Last year 2004.
The stone barn was built by Frank Schott and his two sons Bill Sr. and Tony. It was started in 1923. Rock piles from fields and neighbors fields were used for the material along with sand from Lake Hattie. He mixed all his cement by hand, tasting it to know when it was right. This taste test told him when the amount of line was correct which gave the cement it's sticking and holding power. The loft was mixed and poured by the 3 of them. They made a ramp to push to push the wheel barrow up bare footed as shoes were to slippery. More on the construction tomorrow.. |
