Actually, no, excessive rolling can twist them, which is the biggest danger when a horse gets HORSE colic (they roll to try to ease the gas pains). . . what would happen if he laid flat out too long is his lungs would not expand fully and he would either get pnuemonia and/or suffocate. They MUST be able to "sit on their chests". Horses rarely lay flat except for brief (usually 15 minutes max) periods, except for babies who don't have the weight problem . . .
