rdale1 It's new to me. Might be migrating.
PETERGILBERT I think it's a White Belly Amigoteaser????not realy sure my self, but what a great shot,
I know some birds from here, but this is strange for me also. They are rocks in the soil?
I don't know - I keep getting stuck on a type of Junco that is only on the West Coast (looks JUST like this) and is smaller than a Robin (5-6"). Can't find it in my books (yet) Beautiful snow pictures, this is a great catch too! We somehow don't get blackbirds much any more, but a lot of redwings, which is okay. The males migrate big flocks and for a week or so they were all over the place!
candyruth Sorry to say it may be that PETER is right about it being the elusive Amigoteaser. Great photo of the birds with the seed...very autumnie.
Does it HOP rather than walk, and does it scatch the feed with *both* feet at the same time? If so it *might* be a female Eastern Towhee - the male has red eyes and black hood and back but I am not sure about the female's eyes. (lousy pictures in bird books, darnit!) They are monogamous and rather solitary. They live year round in your area . . .
Also called a Ground Robin "in the South" whatever THAT means! But it is not a Robin at all. In general all towhees like being under a tree rather than in it, and like to scratch in leaves (there were two versions in California that I saw a lot).
Another book shows the female with red eyes, so I dunno! I can't get to Google (second day in a row, odd!) so i can't double check.
tomswift46 It's name is Harpo and he or she looks beautiful. I almost never know the names of birds.
NanaMomStretch It is a beautiful bird and you got another great capture.
